Aldi may not be one of the main four supermarkets that we know in the UK, but it seems to be steadily creeping up there with the best of them. Not only offering a huge range of UK based fruit, veg and meat but also a cracking variety of vino too. Fruity whites to ruby rich reds, something for everyone. Aldi are also know for there bubbly prosecco and finest red ‘Toroloco’.
Here we have two very delicious fresh and fruity wines. Perfect for my dinner table any day of the week.
The Sud de France is £5.99 75cl and was incredibly fruity and fresh. Perfect to accompany a seafood platter, however I had a glass alongside a fresh lemon risotto and it was beautiful.
The Bordeaux is £4.99 75cl is also fresh and reminds me of an apple orchard. Fruity but light. Full bodied too and works well alongside as an accompaniment to any fish, but I found a small glass as an aperitif was perfecto.
White wine is refreshing and follows no rules, so you choose what to have with your chilled vino bianco.
I adore red wine. Rich and voluptuous with dark fruit tendencies.
Ths Merlot from Chile is somethng special. £3.99 75cl. My mouth feels like its on a rollercoaster ride of flavours. I can pick out fruit. Plums and black cherries, then the added bonus of chocolate and mint. A beautiful combination in my opinion and not a wine I would have initially chosen. However very glad I did. I enjoyed a few glasses of this Merlot late one evening with some leftover pandoro. A great choice from Aldi.
Another vibrant red from Chile.
Cabernet Sauvignon Carmenere £4.99 75cl. Fruity, spicy ad warming. A wonderfully flavoured and crafted red wine. This vino was enjoyed alongside a slow cooked beef brasiole in a sugo sauce. A great tasting wine with superb flavour a fabulous aroma and I’m sure this would also make a great drink alongside a Friday night curry.
I will say also Aldi’s prosecco is fabulous and fruity with a dry back note, an absolute favourite of mine. Aldi seems to be making a name for itself in the wine section of the supermarket, so have a look out and keep a keen eye. Affordable wine that’s full of flavour.
