There’s nothing better than a fresh produce market, and I have visited many, however I just could not stop eating when I had a day out at Borough Market. Fresh vibrant fruit and colourful mouth-watering vegetables, many mushroom varieties, bread, oils, cakes, fish, game and so much more. I felt like I had walked into Charlie’s Chocolate factory and simply wanted to dive in head first.
Here are a few pictures of my latest visit.
The most amazing vegetables, colourful, fragrant and perfect for so many of my Italian dishes. Escarole is one of my favourite leaves to eat cooked in a baked lamb recipes, I have never seen it for sale at a produce market before. Just delicious.
Now your talking, look at these beauties. They tasted even better than they look.
Fabulous fungi. They instinctively remind me of the Godfather of Italian cookery, Antonio Carluccio. An incredible variety, perfect fried off in a little butter and thyme and spooned over bruschetta or tossed through a risotto.
Such a beautiful site for any food lover. Fresh rabbit and pheasant. In my cookery book (‘Southern Italian Family Cookery’, released October 2014) I have four recipes to use both rabbit and pheasant. Delicious when in season and rabbit is still very much under used. Such a shame, grab a rabbit and feed your family of four for under £5.
Fresh fish from octopus, calamari, tuna, red mullet and so much more. I adore red mullet baked in the oven with herbs, tomatoes and capers.
Lovely chap from Brindisa, Spanish outlet.
Hot pasta take away. Now there’s an idea. Watch this space.
