Just a few words really. I’m so busy teaching and writing my book at the moment as I have a deadline to hit, I don’t seem to have any spare time at all. However I made time last week. I nipped to little Italy, Bedford in fact to visit my nonna Carmela and zia Maria who has come to visit from Torino in Italy.
Nonna is 84 and zia Maria her middle sister is 73. We made stuffed ravioli with Italian sausage and roasted pumpkin. I felt relaxed with my espresso in one hand and biscotti in the other. I just loved being in the kitchen with two wonderful teachers. They made me laugh as they giggled together, talking about their childhood. Zia Maria is from Northern Italy and cooks differently to Nonna who is from the south side of the island. Zia Maria’s food is much richer, as shes cooking , nonna is behind her shaking her head, saying to me , do it my way Carmelina. Very funny.
Really I just wanted to say, spend time in the kitchen with your children and grand children. This is our future so instill in them what your parents and grandparents did for you.
I have learnt to cook from generations of wonderful cooks. My cookery book is inspired by just this. Nonna,  my mum Solidea and family. Zia Maria has now gone back to Italy, miss her already.
